Every employee shall be entitled to personal leave with pay for
not in excess of three (3) days in any calendar year; provided,
however, that if any employee in any calendar year uses less than
the full amount of personal leave allowable, such unused leave shall
be accumulated up to six (6) days and shall be available to such
employee THAT PERSONAL LEAVE MAY NOT BE ACCUMU-
LATED AND ANY UNUSED PERSONAL LEAVE AS OF THE
END OF THE CALENDAR YEAR SHALL BE FORFEITED.
Personal leave days may be used for religious holidays, death in
the family, inclement weather or any other purpose whatsoever,
provided permission is obtained from the department head. The
department head may not deny permission if personal leave is re-
quested for observance of religious holidays.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

CHAPTER 582
(House Bill 992)
AN ACT to repeal Section 30 (d) of Article 64A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume), title "Merit Sys-
tem," repealing an obsolete provision relating to longevity incre-
ments for certain psychiatric aides.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 30 (d) of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1968 Replacement Volume), title "Merit System," be and it
is hereby repealed as follows:

[(d) Any permanent State employee serving as a psychiatric
aide III at the sixth increment on or after June 30, 1966, who has
had prior continuous service with the State of Maryland in the
classification of psychiatric aide II at the seventh increment shall
be paid at the seventh increment so long as he holds the position
of psychiatric aide III commencing as of the effective date of his pro-
motion to psychiatric aide III. Anyone to whom this subsection
applies shall be entitled to receive payment retroactively as if he had
served in the seventh increment on the date of his promotion to the
classification of psychiatric aide III, even though the date of said
promotion was prior to July 1, 1966.]
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.
