been terminated with the condition, however, that he may not retire
within three years after the date of entry in the State Police Retire-
ment System.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 20 of
Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume, 1970 Supplement), title "Merit System," to reduce
the time period within which notice of examinations must be given
by publication.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 20 of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Replacement Volume, 1970 Supplement), title "Merit System,"
be and it hereby is repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
20. Notice of examination.
Notice of every open examination scheduled by the Secretary shall
be published with the closing date for receiving applications and the
rate of compensation for each position listed at least once [,] or [, in
the discretion of the Secretary,] as many more times as the Secre-
tary may deem necessary AT LEAST TWO WEEKS [during
the four successive weeks preceding the] prior to the date of
examination in a newspaper or newspapers of general circu-
lation in the City of Baltimore or in the county in which
the examination is to be held. Such notice shall also be
sent to the clerk of the Superior Court of Baltimore City and to
the clerk of the circuit court for each county in this State, and said
clerks shall forthwith post the same in their respective courthouses.
Such further notice shall be given as the Secretary may prescribe.
The Secretary shall, whenever necessary, provide facilities for hold-
ing examinations in different parts of the State.
Sec, 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.
