after June 1, 1963, the pension of the deceased judge shall be
calculated at the rates prescribed by sub-subsection (1) of this
subsection, as of that date, notwithstanding that such judge may
have died prior thereto. In each instance the pension is to be paid
to the widow until her remarriage or death. The provisions of this
section shall not apply in the case of a widow who was married to
the judge for a period less than three years and to a retired judge for a
period less than three years before his retirement.
Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall apply to any
judge serving on the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City or the
Municipal Court of Baltimore City after January 1, 1970 JANU-
ARY 1, 1968.
SEC. 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT ANY
JUDGE OR WIDOW OF A JUDGE WHO BECOMES ELIGI-
BLE FOR A PENSION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
ACT AND WHO IS CURRENTLY RECEIVING A PENSION
FROM A COUNTY OR BALTIMORE CITY SHALL NOT BE
ENTITLED TO RECEIVE A PENSION UNDER THE PROVI-
SIONS OF THIS ACT UNLESS THE PENSION FROM THE
COUNTY OR BALTIMORE CITY IS REDUCED BY AN
EQUIVALENT AMOUNT.
Sec. 3 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1971.

(House Bill 296)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37(x) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," and to add
new Section 9D to Article 64A of said Code (1970 Supplement),
title "Merit System," to follow immediately after Section 9C
thereof, to provide that all employees of the Sheriff's Office of
Baltimore City shall be members of the classified service of the
State AND TO PROVIDE THAT BALTIMORE CITY SHALL
REIMBURSE THE STATE FOR ANY EXPENDITURES IN
CONNECTION WITH THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE CLAS-
SIFIED EMPLOYEES IN THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (x) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1970 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation
and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments; and that new Section 9D be and it is hereby added to
Article 64A of said Code (1970 Supplement), title "Merit System,"
to follow immediately after Section 9C thereof, all to read as follows:
