notice of his desire to leave the facility, unless, after initial admis-
sion, his admission status has been changed in accordance with
this subtitle.

(e)  Patients admitted pursuant to Subsection 11 (d) above, pri-
marily for care or treatment of alcoholism, may be retained by a
facility for a period not in excess of seven days after the patient
has given notice of his desire to leave the facility, unless, after
initial admission, his admission status has been changed in accord-
ance with this subtitle.

(f)  No patient admitted pursuant to this section may be retained
by a facility for any period in excess of one year, unless his admis-
sion status has been changed after initial admission, or, unless at
the expiration of each one year period of inpatient residence, the
patient executes a new application. In the event the patient was
initially admitted on an informal basis and such status has not
changed, he shall execute a formal application for admission or the
facility may not retain him after the first anniversary of his initial
admission.

(g)  Any facility licensed by or under the jurisdiction of the De-
partment may admit for the purposes of care or treatment, or both,
any person under the age of 18 years who has any mental disorder
which is susceptible of care or treatment and whose admission to
such facility has been requested by at least one parent or his legal
guardian. The person requesting such admission must, as a pre-
requisite to the admission, be able to understand the nature of the
request. The admission request must be formal, written and as-
sented to by an admitting physician at the facility. No person ad-
mitted pursuant to this subsection may be retained for more than
three days, after the person who requested his admission requests
his release, unless his admission status is changed pursuant to Sec-
tion 12 of this subtitle. No person admitted pursuant to this sub-
section may be retained by a facility for any period in excess of
one year unless his admission status has been changed after initial
admission or unless at the expiration of each one year period of in-
patient residence a new request is executed by a parent or the legal
guardian of the patient.

(H) ALL RELEASES REFERRED TO HEREIN SHALL BE
MADE ANY TIME BETWEEN 9:00 A.M. AND 4:00 P.M.

12. Involuntary Admission.

(a)  Any Veterans' Administration Hospital or facility licensed
by or under the jurisdiction of the Department may admit for the
purpose of care or treatment, or both, any person who:

(1)  has a mental disorder; and

(2)  for the protection of himself or others, needs inpatient
medical care or treatment; and

(3)  is unable or unwilling to be voluntarily admitted to such
facility.

(b)  A facility or Veterans' Administration Hospital may admit
any person who has a mental disorder; and who for the protection
of himself or others needs inpatient care or treatment, or both; and
is unwilling or unable to admit himself voluntarily, upon the ap-
