Whereas, said Chapter was passed to insure that persons whose
property was being taken for a State financed highway project
would receive equal benefits with persons whose property was being
acquired for a Federally-aided highway project, and

Whereas, the General Assembly was advised during the hearings
on such legislation at the 1969 session that in all probability the
Congress of the United States would, during the year 1969, enact
Federal legislation providing certain benefits and financial assist-
ance in land acquisition cases which would be different than that
theretofore passed by the Congress, and thereby require legislative
review by the General Assembly, and

Whereas, the Senate of the United States has passed Senate Bill
1 and such Bill is now before the Public Works Committee of the
House of Representatives. In addition thereto there has been intro-
duced into the House of Representatives by Congressman George H.
Fallon and others H.R. 14898, which bill also relates to the same
subject, but differs from Senate Bill 1. There is also pending before
the House of Representatives a number of other bills on this same
subject. The Public Works Committee of the House of Representa-
tives has heretofore held certain hearings on these bills and has
scheduled additional hearings during the month of January, 1970,
and

Whereas, it is contemplated that during the year 1970, both
Houses of the Congress will agree upon and enact legislation on
this subject which in all probability will require certain changes in
Maryland law in order to insure receipt of certain federal funds, and

Whereas, it is therefore deemed desirable to extend the effective
date of such Chapter 242 from July 1, 1970 to July 1, 1971; now,
therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That subsection (e) of Section 6B of Article 33A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1969 Supplement), title "Eminent Domain," be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

6B.

(e) This section shall remain in force and effect until July 1,
[1970] 1971 and no payments provided herein shall be made after
that date unless the duration of this section is extended by law.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.
