shall serve the initial term of one year and after the expiration of
this one year term no current member of the Charles County Board
of Education shall be appointed to the Board of Trustees. The Board
of Trustees of the Community College shall organize and select its
own Chairman annually.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 192
(House Bill 816)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40(n)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supple-
ment), title "Attorneys At Law and Attorneys In Fact," subtitle
"State's Attorney," to increase the salary of the State's Attorney
of Howard County, and correcting a reference therein.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40(n) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1968 Supplement), title "Attorneys At Law and Attorneys
In Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

40.

(n) (1) The State's Attorney's salary is [$8,500.00] $18,000.00
$16,000.00.

(2)    The State's Attorney may appoint a deputy State's attor-
ney, whose salary shall be set by the [Board of County Commis-
sioners] County Council of Howard County, but not less than
$6,000.00 annually.

(3)    The State's Attorney may appoint such assistant State's
attorneys as may be authorized by the [Board of County Commis-
sioners] County Council and whose salaries shall be set by the [Board
of County Commissioners] County Council. The deputy and assistant
State's attorneys shall serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney
and have the same legal power as the State's Attorney to represent
the State before the grand jury and at the trial of criminal pro-
ceedings.

(4)    The State's Attorney may appoint an administrative assistant
who is authorized and empowered to collect and distribute monies
payable for the support of dependents under orders issuing from
the several courts of this State, or any other state, and to retain
two percent of any monies so collected to be paid to the [Board
of County Commissioners] County Council for Howard County to
defray the costs of this service. The administrative assistant's salary
shall be set by the [Board of County Commissioners] County Council.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the salary of the State's
