(1969 Edition, being Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland), title "Charles County," subtitle "Circuit Court,"
to follow immediately after Section 23 thereof, to remove a cer-
tain obsolete section relating to an assistant court officer and to
authorize the appointment of a law clerk for the resident judge
of the Circuit Court of Charles County and provide for his com-
pensation.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 24 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Charles County
(1969 Edition, being Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Charles County," subtitle "Circuit Court," to fol-
low immediately after Section 23 thereof, be and it is hereby re-
pealed; and that new Section 24 of said Code, title and subtitle be
and it is hereby added, to stand in the place of the section repealed
and to read as follows:
[24. Same; Robert G. MacCartee.
Robert G. MacCartee is hereby authorized to retire from his posi-
tion as Court Reporter in the Counties of the Seventh Judicial Cir-
cuit of Maryland upon reaching the age of seventy years, and the
Judges of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Maryland are hereby au-
thorized and empowered by appropriate order to provide for the
retirement of Robert G. MacCartee from his position as Court
Reporter in said Circuit at any time after June 1, 1957.
In the event of such retirement, he shall be paid from the date
thereof retirement compensation at the rate of $2,400.00 per year,
said compensation to be payable one half by the County Commis-
sioners of Prince George's County, and the remainder to be paid
equally by the County Commissioners of Calvert, Charles and St.
Mary's Counties, respectively.]

The resident judge of the Circuit Court of Charles County may
appoint a law clerk who shall receive an annual compensation, which
shall be fixed by the County Commissioners after consultation with
the resident judge, not in excess of seven thousand dollars
($7,000.00). This compensation shall be provided for in the annual
levy and paid as other expenses and salaries are paid for the con-
duct of business of the Circuit Court.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety and having been passed
by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.
