Section 12-1909
In cases of emergency where any gas equipment, whether installed
before or after the enactment of this subtitle, is an immediate threat to
the safety of persons or property, or where it may interfere with the fire
protection service of any fire department in the county, the Director of
the Department shall have authority to cause such equipment to be dis-
connected or shut down immediately and without notice to the owner
thereof. Upon such disconnection, the Director shall promptly notify the
owner of said equipment.
Section 12-1910
The County Executive shall appoint a Commission to be known as
the Gas Commission of Anne Arundel County. The commission shall
consist of ten members, seven of whom shall be the same persons appointed
to the Plumbing Commission, one member to be a Master Gas Fitter, one
member to be a representative of a public service corporation enfranchised
to distribute gas in Anne Arundel County and one member to be a repre-
sentative of the suppliers of liquefied petroleum gases. The Master Gas
Fitter shall be a resident of Anne Arundel County and shall be engaged
in full-time practice of his profession in Anne Arundel County. Appoint-
ment to the Commission shall be for a term to run concurrently with the
term of the County Executive or until their successors are duly appointed.
Should a vacancy occur from any cause during the term of any Commission
member, the County Executive shall appoint a qualified successor to com-
plete the unexpired balance of such term.
Section 12-1911
The Commission shall have the power to elect out of their number
a president and such other officers as may be expedient, and it shall have
the power to adopt rules and by-laws for the orderly conduct of the
business of the Commission. The commission shall meet at least six times
a year and shall hold such additional meetings as the efficient discharge
of its business may require. At any meeting or hearing conducted by the
commission, the presence of five members shall constitute a quorum.
Members of the commission shall receive no compensation for their services
except such reimbursement for their reasonable and necessary expenses
as may be provided in the budget.
Section 12-1912
The Commission shall:
(a) Hear all complaints with reference to violations of this sub-
title, and especially all complaints with reference to the pursuit of the
trade of gasfitting and shall advise the director of the findings and
recommendations.
(b) Advise the County Council on the adoption of rules and regula-
tions designed to govern the conduct of the gasfitting trade.
(c) Advise the Director on the issuance of gasfitter's licenses, and
in connection with this function, shall ascertain by appropriate written
and oral examination the qualifications and capabilities of all persons who
are or desire to be engaged in such trade.
(d) Advise and assist the Director in the making of rules and regula-
tions, approval of materials and interpretations of this Code, and to make
recommendations from time to time for future revisions of this Code.
