SEVERAL SECTIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE ARE INTENDED AS
MERE CATCHWORDS TO INDICATE THE CONTENTS OF SAID
SECTION, AND SHALL NOT BE DEEMED OR TAKEN TO BE TITLES
OF SUCH SECTIONS, NOR AS ANY PART OF SAID SECTION.
Section 7. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That all ordinance
or parts of ordinances, inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are
hereby repealed to the extent of any such inconsistency.
Section 8. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Ordinance
shall take effect forty-five (45) days from the date it becomes law.

An Ordinance to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
14-300, 14-302 (a) (1), (2), and (b), 14-304, 14-306 (a) and 14-308
(a) of the Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and Supple-
ments), Title 14, "Police", Subtitle 3, "Police and Fire Service Re-
tirement"; and to repeal Sections 14-303 (c) (4) and 14-308 (b)
and (c) of said Code, Title and Subtitle, and to enact new Sections
14-303 (c) (4) and 14-308 (b) and (c) in lieu thereof, to stand in
the respective places of the sections so repealed, to follow immediately
after Sections 14-303 (c) (3) and 14-308 (a), respectively, adding
a definition for "lawful spouse", changing the date for the com-
mencement of retirement benefits, making a technical clarification in
the law, changing the conditions under which the contingent an-
nuitant option may be changed, changing the provisions concerning
death benefits, changing the qualifications for cessation of disability
pensions, changing the law concerning death benefits after retirement
and benefits payable to a lawful spouse and beneficiary, respectively;
and generally relating to the police and fire service retirement plan.
Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That Sections 14-300, 14-302
(a) (1), (2), and (b), 14-304, 14-306 (a) and 14-308 (a) of the Anne
Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and Supplements), Title 14, "Police",
Subtitle 3, "Police and Fire Service Retirement" be, and they are hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
