account, or as the licensed representative of a firm or corporation, who
employs and directs Journeyman Gas Fitters and Apprentice Gas Fitters
and who has or represents a firm or corporation which has an established
place of business within the State of Maryland. He is entitled to secure
permits for the installation or repair of gas fitting work. He must be a
citizen of the United States and shall have had at least two years' experi-
ence as a Journeyman Gas Fitter.
(b) Restricted Gas Fitter: A Restricted Gas Fitter is a licensed
person who regularly engages in and works in the gas fitting business
utilizing liquid petroleum gases only on his own account or as the licensed
representative of a firm or corporation and who has or represents a firm
or corporation which has an established place of business within the
State of Maryland. He is entitled to secure permits for the installation
or repair of gas fitting work utilizing liquid petroleum gases only. He
must be a citizen of the United States and shall have had at least two
years' experience as a Restricted Journeyman Gas Fitter.
(c) Journeyman Gas Fitter: A Journeyman Gas Fitter is a licensed
person who hires himself out to work at the gas fitting business for or
under the direction of a Master Gas Fitter. This license shall be issued
to a person who shall have served at least 2000 working hours as an
Apprentice Gas Fitter and who shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
(d) Restricted Journeyman Gas Fitter: A Restricted Journeyman
Gas Fitter is a licensed person who hires himself out to work at the gas
fitting business pertaining to liquid petroleum gases only under the direc-
tion of a Restricted Gas Fitter. This license shall be issued to a person
who shall have served at least 2000 working hours as an Apprentice Gas
Fitter and who shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
(e) Apprentice Gas Fitter: An Apprentice Gas Fitter is a licensed
person who is under training to learn the gas fitting trade for or under
the supervision of a Master or Restricted Gas Fitter. The apprentice
license shall designate whether he is to be employed in the natural and/
or manufactured gas trade or the liquid petroleum gas trade.
Section 12-1914.
(a) Applications for the licenses set forth in Section 12-1915 shall
be made in the handwriting of the applicant on a form supplied by the
department. The applicant shall state the period of time during which he
has been engaged as an Apprentice, Master Gas Fitter, Restricted Gas
Fitter, Journeyman Gas Fitter, or Restricted Journeyman Gas Fitter. He
shall state the type of work in which he has been engaged, together with
a description of and a reference to substantial jobs he has performed.
(b) Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, every
(1) Applicant for a license as a Master Gas Fitter, Restricted Gas
Fitter, Journeyman or Restricted Journeyman Gas Fitter shall submit to
an examination as to his qualifications at such time and place as the
Commission may direct. The examination shall be in writing unless the
Commission shall otherwise direct as hereinafter provided. Such examina-
tion shall be designed to test the applicant's knowledge of the proper
construction of the size and installation of piping and of fixtures and
appliances generally used in gas fitting work.
(2) The applicant shall be required to demonstrate his ability to
comprehend and interpret plans and drawings showing the arrangement
of gas fixtures, etc.
