2258                               Municipal Charters

Charter Amendment No. 23

Resolution of The Commissioners of Cambridge adopted pursuant
to the authority of Article 11E of the Constitution of Maryland and
Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957
Edition, as Amended), title "Corporation-Municipal", to amend the
Charter of The Commissioners of Cambridge by repealing and reen-
acting, with amendments, Section 35 "General Elections", of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Dorchester County (1961 Edition), said
Code being Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland,
title "Dorchester County" subtitle "Cambridge", repealing certain ob-
solete material and inserting new material pertaining to general
elections.

Section 1. BE IT RESOLVED by The Commissioners of Cambridge
that the Charter of said Municipal Corporation be, and the same is hereby,
amended by repealing and reenacting said Section 35 to read as follows:

35. GENERAL ELECTIONS:

(a)    Date. On the second Tuesday of July, in the year nineteen
hundred [twelve] seventy-two, and on the second Tuesday of July [in each
and every second or alternate year] every four years thereafter, there
shall be an election held in the City of Cambridge for the purpose of
choosing Commissioners, as hereinafter provided.

(b)   Commissioners elected. [In the year 1912 there shall be selected
by the qualified voters of each of wards Nos. 1, 4 and 5, a Commissioner
who shall hold office for a term of four years, or until his successor is
duly elected and qualified and there shall be elected by the qualified voters
of each of wards Nos. 2 and 3, a Commissioner to hold office for a
term of two years, or until his successor is duly elected and qualified,
and on the second Tuesday of July, in the year 1914, and on the second
Tuesday of July in each and every fourth year thereafter there shall be
elected by qualified voters of each of wards Nos. 2 and 3, a Commissioner
who shall hold office for a term of four years or until his successor is
duly elected and qualified and there shall be elected on the second Tuesday
of July, in the year 1916, and on the second Tuesday of July, in each
and every fourth year thereafter, by the qualified voters of each of
wards Nos. 1, 4 and 5, a Commissioner who shall hold office for a term
of four years or until his successor is duly elected and qualified]. The
Supervisor of Elections shall provide the official ballot for such election
or elections, the form and arrangement of such ballot to be such as the
Commissioners of Cambridge shall by order prescribe except that all can-
didates for the same office shall be grouped together and the names shall
be arranged alphabetically according to said group on said ballot.

(c)  Ballots. The Supervisor of Elections shall deliver at each polling
place on the day of said election to the judges of election before! the
opening hour, the said registries of voters and a sufficient number of
the said official ballots, not less, however, than twice the number of
registered voters at each polling place or ward, and one of such ballots-
shall be handed by the judges of election to the voters as they shall
apply for them for the purpose of voting and shall be accepted by the
judges or counted in canvassing the vote provided that nothing herein
shall be deemed to prevent candidates for the various offices to have sample'
ballots, to be provided for at their own expense, for instructing the voters.
After each name on said ballot and to the right thereof, shall be a square
