Section 1. That the Charter of said municipal corporation be and the
same is hereby amended by repealing Section 22 and re-enacting in lieu
thereof new Section 22 to read as follows:
22. (Election Districts.) For the purposes of elections the City of
Bowie shall be divided into [four] six election districts.
[(1) Ward One—shall follow the original corporate limits of Bowie
as established in the 1953 edition of the Code of the Public Local Laws of
Prince George's County, Maryland, plus the annexed strip along Maryland
Route 197, south of Old Chapel Road. This ward shall be known as the
Huntington Section.
(2) Ward Two—shall consist of the Somerset Section.
(3) Ward Three—shall consist of the Buckingham Section.
(4) Ward Four—shall consist of the Kenilworth Section.]
(1) District One—shall consist of locations in the Chapel Force
Section and those which lie west of Old Chapel Road.
(2) District Two—shall consist of locations north of Maryland
Route 450 except those in Districts (1) and (3).
(3) District Three—shall consist of locations in the Somerset and
Tulip Grove Sections; those west of Maryland Route 197 which lie between
Maryland Route 450 and United States Highway 50; and those between
Devens Creek and Maryland Route 4.50 which lie east of the Bowie Senior
High School and west of Race Track Road.
(4) District Four—shall consist of locations which lie south of
Maryland Route 450 and north of United States Highway 50, except those
in District (3).
(5) District Five—shall consist of locations which lie south of
United States Highway 50.
(6) District Six—shall consist of all locations in Bowie. (See Note)
The Council shall periodically evaluate the [wards] Districts of the
City to insure that the representation is reasonably equal, and shall have
the power to change the boundaries thereof. The effective date of any
change of boundaries shall be determined by the Council.
Section 2. That the date of the adoption of this Resolution is January
13, 1969 and that the Amendment to the Charter of the City of Bowie,
hereby proposed by this enactment, shall be and become effective on
March 4, 1969, unless a proper petition for a referendum hereon shall be
filed by February 22, 1969 as permitted by law. A complete and exact
copy of the Resolution shall be posted in the City Municipal Building until
February 22, 1969 and a fair summary of the Amendment shall be pub-
lished in a newspaper having general circulation in the City not less than
four (4) times at weekly intervals by February 22, 1969.
Section 3. That as soon as the Charter Amendment hereby enacted
shall become effective, either as herein provided or following a referendum,
the Bowie City Manager shall send separately, by registered mail, to the
Secretary of State of Maryland, and to the Department of Legislative
Reference, the following information concerning the Charter Amend-
ment; (1) the complete text of this Resolution; (2) the date of the
referendum election, if any, held with respect thereto; (3) the number of
