Amendments to Municipal Charters

ANNAPOLIS

Resolution of February 10, 1969

Resolution of the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis,
adopted pursuant to the authority contained in Article 11-E of the
Constitution of the State of Maryland and Article 23-A of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1965 Edition), to repeal and re-enact Section
2 of the Charter of the City of Annapolis titled "City Attorney;
Assistant City Attorney" for the purpose of changing the salaries
of the attorneys for the City.

SECTION I: BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Aldermen of the
City of Annapolis that Section 2 of the Charter of the City of Annapolis
be, and the same is hereby, repealed and re-enacted to read as follows:

Section 2. The Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis shall,
on the second Monday in June, every four years, beginning in 1961, elect
a member of the Bar of Anne Arundel County, a resident of the City of
Annapolis, to be the City Attorney and said City Attorney shall not be
entitled to vote with the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis.
The salary of the City Attorney shall be Nine Thousand Two Hundred
Dollars ($9,200.00) per year payable monthly. He shall be allowed no other
compensation. He shall attend at the meetings of the said Mayor and
Aldermen and shall attend to all the law business of said City, and shall
advise the Mayor and Aldermen as to all legal matters at such time or
times as he may be called upon so to do.

The said Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis shall also
elect a member of the Bar of Anne Arundel County, a resident of the City
of Annapolis, to be the Assistant City Attorney, to serve during the term
of the City Attorney and said Assistant City Attorney shall not be entitled
to vote with the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis. The salary
of the Assistant City Attorney shall be Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00)
per year payable monthly and he shall be allowed no other compensation.
He shall act under the direction of the city attorney and shall assist him
in the law business of the city when called upon by the city attorney
to do so.

SECTION II: AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Mayor
and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis that the date of adoption of the
Resolution is the 10th day of February 1969, and the Amendment of the
Charter of the City of Annapolis hereby enacted shall become effective
on the fiftieth day after its passage, unless a proper petition for referendum
shall be filed as permitted by law; provided a complete and exact copy
of this Resolution shall be continuously posted on the bulletin board in the
City Hall for at least forty (40) days after its passage, and provided
further that a copy of the title of this Resolution shall be published in
"The Evening Capital", a newspaper of general circulation in the City of
Annapolis, or in any other newspaper of such general circulation once in
each of the five (5) successive weeks thereafter.
