(House Joint Resolution 18)
House Joint Resolution commending various individuals and organiza-
tions for their work in promoting the State of Maryland.
Whereas, Maryland is becoming increasingly recognized as a
tourist mecca because of its many historic and cultural centers; and
Whereas, It requires devotion and interest to develop and preserve
these many attractions and to encourage Maryland residents as well
as those from out of state to visit them; and
Whereas, The increase in tourism throughout the State benefits
the residents of Maryland and contributes to the State's welfare;
and
Whereas, Those individuals and organizations who have contrib-
uted to the promotion and development of the State should be com-
mended for their work; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates GENERAL ASSEMBLY of
Maryland, That it commends the following individuals and organiza-
tions for their contributions to the State of Maryland: The National
Geographic and Mr. Herbert Henderson for developing tourist serv-
ices at the Geographic's Membership Headquarters in Montgomery
County; Mr. Matthew Witenstein for his efforts to generate an inter-
est in tourism throughout the State; and Mr. Ted Giles for his efforts
on behalf of Talbot County; and be it further
Resolved, That the House of Delegates GENERAL ASSEMBLY of
Maryland commends the Carroll County Commissioners for their
efforts to develop significant tourist attractions, and the Philadelphia
Gas and Electric Company for its work in providing tourist facilities
at the Conowingo Dam site; and be it further
Resolved, That the House of Delegates GENERAL ASSEMBLY of
Maryland commends Judge Daniel T. Prettyman for his work in en-
couraging the preservation of historic landmarks in Worcester County
and Mayor John Howard Burbage for his contributions to tourism;
and be it further
Resolved, That the House of Delegates GENERAL ASSEMBLY of
Maryland commends the Donnelly Advertising Company and Mr.
Philip Kershner for placing "Welcome to Baltimore" signs through-
out the city and Mr. James Rogers for his untiring efforts to attract
tourist related industries to Maryland; and be it further
RESOLVED, THAT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARY-
LAND COMMENDS DAVE GORDON OF GORDON'S ORLEANS
STREET FOR HIS PROMOTION OF MARYLAND CRAB SPE-
CIALTIES AT THE SAN FRANCISCO CRAB COOKING OLYM-
PICS IN MAY 1969, AT WHICH EVENT HE WAS AWARDED
FOUR TROPHIES.
Resolved, That copies of this Resolution be sent to all organizations
and individuals commended in this Resolution.
