CHAPTER 659
(House Bill 459)

AN ACT to authorize and direct the Board of County Commissioners
of Prince George's County to pay the sum of Eighteen Thousand,
Eight Hundred and Eighty Four Dollars and Ninety Two Cents
($18,884.92) to Sgt. Ralph Bond, Sgt. Frank Bishop, Sgt. Everett
Husk and Detective Thomas Blount as reimbursement for legal
fees and other costs incurred in their legal defense as to bribery
charges. This sum of Eighteen Thousand, Eight Hundred and
Eighty Four Dollars and Ninety Two Cents ($18,884.92) is to be
paid as follows. Detective Thomas Blount is to be paid $3,750. for
legal fees and $81.63 for defense costs. Sgt. Ralph Bond is to be
paid $5,000. for legal fees and $647.13 for defense costs. Sgt.
Everett Husk is to be paid $3,750. for legal fees and $92.78 for
defense costs. Sgt. Frank Bishop is to be paid $5,000. for legal
fees and $563.38 for defense costs.

Whereas, In December 1968 Sgt. Ralph Bond, Sgt. Frank Bishop,
Sgt. Everett G. Husk and Detective Thomas Blount were advised
officially that they were under investigation for alleged bribery
charges; and

Whereas, On April 2, 1969 they were indicted on charges of
bribery; and

Whereas, The bribery allegations arose entirely within the scope
of their employment as police officers of Prince George's County; and

Whereas, Sgt. Everett Husk, Sgt. Frank Bishop and Detective
Thomas Blount stood trial individually and were acquitted and the
charges against Sgt. Ralph Bond were nolle prossed by the State
following the three acquittals.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Board of County Commissioners of Prince George's County
is authorized and directed to include in the next county budget the
sum of Eighteen Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty Four Dollars
and Ninety Two Cents ($18,884.92) as full reimbursement for the
legal fees and defense costs these three (3) policemen and one (1)
detective incurred in defense of bribery charges placed against
them and of which charges they were fully and honorably acquitted.
This sum of Eighteen Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty Four
Dollars and Ninety Two Cents ($18,884.92) is to be paid as follows.
Detective Thomas Blount is to be paid $3,750. for legal fees and
$81.63 for defense costs. Sgt. Ralph Bond is to be paid $5,000. for
legal fees and $647.13 for defense costs. Sgt. Everett Husk is to be
paid $3,750. for legal fees and $92.78 for defense costs. Sgt. Frank
Bishop is to be paid $5,000. for legal fees and $563.38 for defense
costs.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.
