dise. It is further provided that this section shall not apply to
bowling alleys or lanes [.] -, wrestling matches or boxing matches.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

CHAPTER 614
(House Bill 879)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 555B(a)
of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1967 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments," subtitle "I. Crimes
and Punishments," subheading "Telephone Misuse," authorizing
the recording of certain emergency use telephone lines without a
recorder signal under certain conditions.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 555B(a) of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1967 Replacement Volume), title "Crimes and Punishments,"
subtitle "I. Crimes and Punishments," subheading "Telephone Mis-
use," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

555B.

(a) It is unlawful for any State official or employee to monitor
or record in any manner, directly or indirectly, any telephone con-
versation made either to or from any State department or agency,
except with the prior approval of the Attorney General of Mary-
land. Where approval has been granted by the Attorney General,
it is unlawful to monitor or record in any manner, directly or in-
directly, a telephone conversation herein without the use of a recorder-
connector equipment which contains a device automatically produc-
ing a distinctive recorder tone which is repeated at intervals of ap-
proximately fifteen seconds [.]; except, with the approval of the
Attorney General, on those telephone lines used exclusively for
IN-
COMING police, fire, and rescue calls it is not necessary to append a
device automatically producing a distinctive recorder tone.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby de-
clared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety and having been passed
by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.
