§ 12-402.1. Alteration of air pollution control devices.

It is unlawful for any person willfully or intentionally to remove,
alter, or otherwise render inoperable any exhaust emission control or
crankcase ventilation device which has been installed by a manufac-
turer of motor vehicles on a motor vehicle manufactured as a 1968
or later model, if the motor vehicle is factory equipped with this
device as required by federal law or by rule or regulation promul-
gated by the commissioner.

§ 12-403. Mirrors.

(a)    Every motor vehicle shall be equipped with at least one mir-
ror located to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a dis-
tance of at least 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle.

(b)    Every motor vehicle registered in this state shall be equipped
with an outside mirror on the driver's side located to reflect to the
driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least 200 feet to the
rear of the vehicle and along the driver's side of the vehicle. This
subsection shall not apply to motorcycles, which are governed by
subsection (c).

(c)    Every motorcycle shall be equipped with 2 rear view mirrors,
one each attached to the right and left handle bars, which shall meet
standards promulgated by the commissioner.

(d)    Where the view through the inside rear view mirror is
obstructed, two outside rear view mirrors are required.

§ 12-403.1. Cross-view mirrors on school buses.

Every school bus in the State shall be equipped with a cross-view
or similar mirror which permits the operator of the bus to observe
through its use the area from the front bumper of the bus forward
to the point where direct observation is possible, except those buses
which may be excluded by specific designation by the State Depart-
ment of Education if the mirror would serve no useful purpose be-
cause of the configuration of the school bus. The type of mirror and
its method of attachment shall be designated by regulation of the
State Board of Education in order to comply with the provisions of
this section.

§ 12-404. Windshields must be unobstructed and equipped with
wipers.

(a)    No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign,
poster, or other nontransparent material upon the front windshield
or sidewings of the vehicle other than a certificate or other paper
either required to be so displayed by law or authorized by the
Commissioner.

(b)    The windshield on every motor vehicle, except motorcycles,
shall be equipped with a device for cleaning rain, snow, or other
moisture from the windshield, which device shall be constructed to
be controlled or operated by the driver of the vehicle.

(c)    Every windshield wiper upon a motor vehicle shall be main-
tained in good working order.
