rated in other lamps on the vehicle.

§ 12-220. Omitted.

§ 12-221. Additional lighting equipment.

(a)    Any motor vehicle may be equipped with not more than two
side cowl or fender lamps which emit an amber or white light without
glare, and which shall be located at or near the front of the vehicle.

(b)    Any motor vehicle maty be equipped with not more than one
running-board courtesy lamp on each side thereof which emit a
white or amber light without glare.

(c)    Any motor vehicle may be equipped with one or more back-up
lamps either separately or in combination with other lamps, but any
such back-up lamp or lamps shall not be lighted when the motor vehi-
cle is in forward motion.

(d)    Any vehicle may be equipped with lamps which may be used
for the purpose of warning the operators of other vehicles of the
presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring the exercise of un-
usual care in approaching, overtaking or passing, and when so
equipped may display the warning in addition to any other warning
signals required by this article. The lamps used to display such
warning to the front shall be mounted at the same level and as
widely spaced laterally as practicable, and shall display simultane-
ously flashing white or amber lights, or any shade of color between
white and amber. The lamps used to display the warning to the
rear shall be mounted at the same level and as widely spaced
laterally as practicable, and show simultaneously flashing amber or
red lights, or any shade of color between amber and red. These
warning lights shall be visible from a distance of not less than
1,500 feet under normal atmospheric conditions at night. Every
motor vehicle registered in this State which was manufactured or
assembled after June 30, 1967, and designated as a 1968 or sub-
sequent year model shall be equipped either with these lamps or with
some other device approved by the commissioner, by means of which
the operator may cause both front and both rear turn signals to
flash simultaneously as a vehicular traffic hazard warning.

(e)    Any vehicle 80 inches or more in over-all width, if not other-
wise required by Section 12-208,
, may be equipped with not more than
three identification lamps showing to the front which emit an amber
light without glare and not more than three identification lamps
showing to the rear which emit a red light without glare. Such
lamps shall be mounted as specified in subsection (b) of section
12-208.

§ 12-222. Multiple-beam road-lighting equipment.

(a) Except as hereinafter provided, the head lamps or the
auxiliary driving lamp or combination thereof on motor vehicles
other than motorcycles shall be so arranged that the driver may
select at will between distributions of light projected to different
elevations, and the lamps, in addition, may be so arranged that the
selection can be made automatically, subject to the following limita-
tions:
