mittee shall have no authority, power or duty vested in any other
department or departments of State government.

§ 2-204- Executive director.

The governor's highway safety coordinator shall be the executive
director of the committee. The executive director shall be the
administrative officer for the committee and shall be in general
charge of the work of the committee. The executive director shall
develop, plan and execute such functions and duties as are prescribed
by the (committee) under this article.

Optional § 2-205. Meetings.

The committee shall meet at the call of the chairman.

Part IIIThe Department of Motor Vehicles
§ 2-301. Department of Motor Vehicles continued.

The department of the government of this State known as the
"Department of Motor Vehicles" is continued in existence.

§ 2-302. Office of Commissioner of Motor Vehicles created.

(a)    The department shall be under the control of a civil executive
officer to be known as the "Commissioner of Motor Vehicles."

(b)    Subject to the provisions of Article 64A of this code, the
Governor shall appoint a competent person as commissioner, who
shall devote his time to the duties of the office.

(c)    Following the appointment of the commissioner, he shall
hold his position subject generally to the provisions of Article 64A.

(d)    The commissioner shall receive the salary provided in the
State Budget. Upon entering the performance of his duties, he shall
be covered by a surety bond in accordance with the provisions of
sections 46 through 50 of Article 78A of this code.

§ 2-303. Organization of department.

The commissioner shall organize the department as he deems neces-
sary.

§ 2-304. Commissioner to appoint subordinates.

The Commissioner, subject to Maryland Merit System laws, shall
appoint a Deputy Commissioner of Motor Vehicles and deputies, sub-
ordinate officers, clerks, investigators, and other employees as neces-
sary to carry out the provisions of this article. All the officers and
employees shall receive salaries as fixed by the Standard Salary
Board and provided in the State Budget.

§ 2-305. Medical Advisory Board.

(a) For the purpose of enabling him properly and fairly to
comply with the provisions of subtitle 6 regarding the physical and
mental condition of persons who seek to drive on the highways of
this State, the commissioner may appoint a Medical Advisory Board
of qualified doctors of medicine. The commissioner also may appoint
a medical secretary to serve under the board.
