Upon entering a judgment of conviction, the court having juris-
diction, may suspend the imposition or execution of sentence and
place the defendant on probation upon such terms and conditions as
the courts deem proper. The court may impose a sentence for a
specified period and provide that a lesser period be served in confine-
ment, suspend the remainder of the sentence and grant probation
for a period longer than the sentence but not in excess of five years.
Probation may be granted whether the offence OFFENSE is pun-
ishable by fine or imprisonment or both. If the offence OFFENSE is
punishable by both fine and imprisonment, the court may impose a
fine and place the defendant on probation as to the imprisonment.
Probation may be limited to one or more counts or indictments, but,
in the absence of express limitation, shall extend to the entire sen-
tence and judgment. The court may revoke or modify any condition
of probation or may reduce the period of probation.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 34(a) of
Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supple-
ment), title "Workmen's Compensation," subtitle "Application of
Article; Extra-Hazardous Employments," to include in the defini-
tion of extra-hazardous employment of members of volunteer fire
companies and members of rescue squads in certain counties, any
business which is required of them as members AND TO REPEAL
SECTION 34 (A-l) OF THE SAME ARTICLE OF SAID CODE
(1964 REPLACEMENT VOLUME), TITLE "WORKMEN'S
COMPENSATION," SUBTITLE "APPLICATION OF AR-
TICLE; EXTRA-HAZARDOUS EMPLOYMENTS."
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 34(a) of Article 101 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Supplement), title "Workmen's Compensation," subtitle
"Application of Article; Extra-Hazardous Employments," be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
34.
(a) All members of all volunteer fire companies in Caroline, Kent,
Howard and, Anne Arundel AND CALVERT counties, and all mem-
bers of all rescue squads in Caroline, Kent and, Anne Arundel AND
CALVERT counties, while going to or returning from or fighting a
fire [or], while engaged as a member of any ambulance, first aid or
rescue squad created within such fire companies or while engaged in
