June Court 1738

County afd upon their Oath do present that John Ednew late
of Saint Pauls parish in the County afd Labourer the tenth day
of June Anno Domini seventeen hundred thirty & eight at the
parish afd in the County afd and within the Jurisdiction of
this Court with force and Arms a Bell Collar of the Value of
Six pounds of tobacco of the goods and Chattles of John Ryley
[th]en and there being found then and there feloniously did
[s]teal take and bear away against the peace of the said Lord
propry. his good rule and Government       Francis
On the Back of the afd Indictment was Indorsed as fol. Vizt
                          Billa Vera Jams Ringgold form.
And now here to wit at Kent County Court at the Court
house in the Town of Chester in said County on the third tuesday
of June being the twentieth day of said month in the year of Our
Lord seventeen hundred thirty & eight cometh the afd Lord propry.
by his Attorney afd and prayeth that the afd John to the
Indictment afd might Answer
And the afd John in his proper person comes and defends
                                                          is in no sort
the force and Injury whose &c. and saith that he ^ cannot
guilty of the Indictment afd so as afd against him brought
                                                               as
nor can he say but that he is guilty of the premisses ^ afd above
upon Imposed as by the Indictment afd it is alledged and
thereupon he submits to the Court            puts himself
upon the County
And he who followeth for the Lord propry. in like mannr.
Saith he is guilty                  Francis pr. Ld propry.
Thereupon Command was given to the Sherr. of Kent
County Greeting that he Immediately cause to come here
twelve &ca. by whom &c. who neither &c. to Recognize &c.
because as well &ca. of which said precept the said Sherr.
to wit William Harris Gent. now here at this day to
wit the twentieth day of June Anno Dom. seventeen
hundred thirty & eight makes return that he hath
here ready twelve &ca. As by his precept he was Commdd.
And now here afterwards to wit the day & year last
mentioned come again the afd Lord propry. by his Attry.
