28 SIXTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE
LIBRARY
During the fiscal year 1939-1940 the collection of printed books at the Hall of Records was gathered in one place, sorted out for duplicates and other unnecessary materials which could be disposed of, accessioned, and catalogued. During the past year it was only necessary to continue this work. We have thought it wise to continue our former policy of refusing gifts of books having no connection with Maryland. In addition to the gifts and purchases listed below there is now on deposit at the Hall of Records a col- lection of Maryland imprints and books relating to Maryland belonging to Mrs. Melvin Stewart. Since only part of this collec- tion will come to the Hall of Records it will not be listed until a final disposition is made. From the widow of the late George Forbes there came an excellent collection of Marylandiana which contained many rare items and which will be a valuable addition to our collection.
