#4, #5, and #6: MOUNT VERNON

4. Washington Monument, Mt. Vernon Place

5. Monument Street, Facing East.

6. Monument Street, Facing East.

The marching paraders tromped their way through Mt. Vernon and provided artists with a chance to illustrate the parade with the picturesque Washington Monument as a backdrop. Consider photographs number 5 and 6 and their relationship to this representation in this Metcalf & Clark lithograph. Also, if the parade traveled west on Madison, why are they represented as traveling on Monument street?
