Hamburg Street is now the best way into south Baltimore from Russell
Street, but because of Interstate 395, it includes bridges and
overpasses. Where Eutaw met Hamburg Street (where we are) was a
neighborhood called Pigtown, which in 1870 had the greatest population
of rural blacks who had moved to Baltimore (See
Olson, p. 233.) We're heading southeast to Sharp Street, where we'll
head north again towards downtown.
