Science. Frederick Douglass spoke of Baltimore as growing from a two-story town into a five-story town. These are the builders who will continue its growth.

There were other blacks who were champions of science and industry. Isaac Myers, a prominent black entrepreneur and president of the celebration had one of the largest shipbuilding facilities in the Fells Point area.

Hiram Revels, pictured below, was one of the first black Senators in Congress.
