ASAP SUMMARY

The Advanced School Automated Program (ASAP) will offer the advantages of instructional technology to all content areas of the curriculum. The use of technology will support student attainment of state and county learning outcomes. These outcomes are assessed by the Maryland School Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP). County achievement data will report gains related to the instructional goals of county technological programs. Most importantly, the use of technology must produce a student who works cooperatively with a community of learners as a producer of knowledge. The student must be able to:

• convey ideas and knowledge
  

• gather, manipulate, analyze, and present information
  

• use technology to solve problems
  

• use technology in a manner that adheres to ethical standards for use
  

Three important provisions must be addressed:

• Appropriate hardware and software must be acquired to provide each student with adequate use time.
  

• Equitable access to technology must be assured, regardless of which school one attends. To this end, standards must be established to ensure that all new equipment can be linked together to provide ease of use and security.
  

• A comprehensive and continuous training and support program must be fully realized in order to ensure the success of instructional technology in our schools.
  

The Anne Arundel County ASAP Program is committed to the belief that technology holds the promise for producing a different student, one with new skills that meet the demands of a rapidly changing society.
