Helped in the passing of Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1964; the Voting Rights Act of 1965; and the Fair Housing Law of 1968; which earned him the title of the “101st U.S. Senator”
U.S. Delegate to the United Nations, 1974-1977
Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, 1980
Received the NAACP Spingarn Medal , 1980
Comments:
Posthumously, the Baltimore City Courthouse was renamed in his honor on March 8, 1985. Named one of the pre-eminent Baltimore lawyers and judges of the 20th century.
