Maryland Delegate to the Constitutional Convention, 1787 (did not sign)
Attorney General of Maryland, 1778-1805, 1818-1822
Chief Judge, Courts of Oyer and Terminer and General Gaol Delivery, 1813-1816
Comments:
Named one of the pre-eminent Maryland lawyers and judges of the 18th and 19th centuries. He argued Maryland's position in the landmark Supreme Court case McCulloch v. Maryland.
