Appointed as Chief Judge of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City by Governor Elihu Jackson at the age of thirty, becoming the youngest judge ever appointed. Named one of the pre-eminent Baltimore lawyers and judges of the 20th century. Although not law partners he shared law offices with James P. Gorter and Henry A. Stump, both men would serve on the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City.
