DESCRIPTION : THIS LARGE SCALE CHART GIVES DETAILED SOUNDINGS IN FATHOMS AND FEET AS WELL AS EXTENSIVE DATA ON BOTTOM CONDITIONS. ITS MAJOR FEATURE IS A HEAVY DOTTED LINE TRACING THE ROUTE FROM WASHINGTON, D.C. TO NORFOLK. INTERVENING POINTS ALONG THE ROUTE, KEYED INTO THE DISTANCE TABLE ON THE TOP RIGHT SIDE OF THE CHART, ARE MARKED BY SOLID CIRCLES. NAVIGATIONAL LIGHTS ARE LOCATED (WITHOUT GIVING THE LIGHT IDENTIFICATION PATTERN) AS WELL AS AN INDICATION OF THE TOPOGRAPHY OF THE COASTAL AREA. MAJOR RAILROAD LINES ARE SHOWN. CONTOUR SHADING IS USED TO SHOW SHOALS AND SHALLOW COASTAL AREAS.

THIS CHART COVERS THE AREA FROM SWAN POINT NEAR ROCK HALL TO VIRGINIA BEACH, SOUTH OF CAPE HENRY AND FROM CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND TO FREDERICKSBURG.
