DESCRIPTION : THIS MAP COVERS THE AREA FROM MONTREAL TO CAPE HATTERAS AND FROM EASTERN CONNECTICUT TO DETROIT, INCLUDING ALL OF MARYLAND AND THE CHESAPEAKE BAY. THE DETAILED INSET ON BALTIMORE-WASHINGTON GIVES NUMEROUS PLACE NAMES. THIS MAP FIRST APPEARED IN MEYER'S ZEITUNG-ATLAS IN 1850. THE 1852 STATE, WHICH WAS FROM THE SAME PLATE AND WHICH THIS MAP REPRESENTS, APPEARED IN MEYER'S GROSCHEN-ATLAS.

MEYER LIVED FROM 1796 TO 1856 AND PUBLISHED ATLASES FROM 1830 TO 1856.

DATA IS FROM OBSERVATION OF THE COPIES IN THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION.

EDITION & STATE INFO : THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION HAS TWO STATES OF THIS MAP, WITH LITTLE IF ANYTHING ALTERED OTHER THAN MARGINAL INFORMATION.

1ST STATE - (1850)- TITLE HAS AN 1850 DATE. NOTATION IN THE LEFT TOP MARGIN READS "MEYER'S ZEITUNGS-ATLAS". "No. 70" APPEARS IN RIGHT TOP MARGIN. (SEE MAP # 350M5).

2ND STATE - (1852)- THIS IS THE MAP AS DESCRIBED. THE NOTATION IN THE LEFT TOP MARGIN NOW READS "MEYER'S GROSCHEN-ATLAS". "No. 70" HAS BEEN DELETED.

DATA IS FROM OBSERVATION OF THE COPIES IN THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION.
