DESCRIPTION : THIS MAP APPEARED IN THE DECEMBER 1762 SUPPLEMENT TO GENTLEMEN'S MAGAZINE, 8o, LONDON, FOR D. HENRY, V. 32, P. 603. IT CONTAINS A LARGER SCALE INSET OF THE MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. THE PURPOSE OF THE MAP IS TO SHOW THE AREA CLAIMED BY FRANCE AND SPAIN AND CEDED TO THE BRITISH IN THE PRELIMINARY TREATY OF 1762. THE REPRESENTATION OF MARYLAND AND THE CHESAPEAKE BAY IS TOO SMALL TO BE OF INTEREST IN A MARYLAND COLLECTION.

THE BORDER WITH DELAWARE IS SHOWN AS A SEMICIRCULAR DOTTED LINE. ANNAPOLIS IS SHOWN, BUT BALTIMORE IS OMITTED. A FAINT DOTTED LINE SHOWS A CRUDE SOUTHERN MARYLAND BORDER.

GIBSON, GEOGRAPAHER, ENGRAVER AND DRAUGHTSMAN, FLOURISHED FROM 1750 TO 1792. HE WORKED WITH THE GENTLEMEN'S MAGAZINE FROM 1758 TO 1763.
