DESCRIPTION : THIS IS SHEET 6 OF 20 OF THE FAMOUS HENRY POPPLE ATLAS ENTITLED A MAP OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE IN AMERICA, LONDON, 1733. IN A TABLE OF CONTENTS ATTACHED TO THE REAR OF THE ATLAS, THIS SHEET IS ENTITLED "MARILAND, PENSILVANIA, NEW-JERSEY, NEW-YORK, AND THE WESTERN PART OF CONNECTICUT", ALTHOUGH IT EXTENDS AS FAR WEST AS LAKE ILLINOIS (PRESENT LAKE MICHIGAN) AND AS FAR NORTH AS MONTREAL. THE REPRESENTATION OF THE GREAT LAKES IS RELATIVELY GOOD. THE EASTWARD BULGE OF THE EAST COAST OF THE DELMARVA PENINSULA IS A MISCONCEPTION FOLLOWED BY BOWEN IN 1747 AND A NUMBER OF OTHER CARTOGRAPHERS.
