DESCRIPTION : ACCORDING TO VERNER, THIS MAP IS DERIVATIVE 3 FROM STATE 6 OF THE 1612 JOHN SMITH MAP (SEE MAP # 112S5). THE ENGRAVING IS CLEANER AND MORE SIMPLIFIED. THE POWHATAN VIEW IS IN THE TOP LEFT AND THE SUSQUEHANNA INDIAN IS ON THE RIGHT. THIS IS A MUCH RARER DERIVATIVE THAN MOST OF THE OTHERS, EXCEPT DERIVATIVE 1, STATE 1 (SEE MAP # 118H5). THE MAP FIRST APPEARED ON P. 17 IN DE BRY'S DREYZEHENDER THEIL AMERICAE...., FRANCKFURT, GEDRUCKT BEY CASPER ROTEL, 1628. THE MAP LATER APPEARED IN 1655 IN GALLFREIDT'S NEWE WELT UND AMERICANISCHE HISTORIEN..., FRANCKFORT, MERIONISCHEN, ERBEN.

THE MAP LATER APPEARED IN 1634 IN DE BRY'S DECIMA TERTIA PARS HISTORIA AMERICANAE, FRANCFORTI, MERIONI. IN 1655, THE MAP APPEARED IN GALLFREIDT'S NEWE WELT UND AMERICANISCHE HISTORIEN..., FRANCKFORT, MERIONISCHEN ERBEN, 1655.
