DESCRIPTION : ACCORDING TO VERNER, THIS MAP IS DERIVATIVE 3 FROM STATE 6 OF THE 1612 JOHN SMITH MAP (SEE MAP # 112S5). THE ENGRAVING IS CLEANER AND MORE SIMPLIFIED. THE POWHATAN VIEW IS IN THE TOP LEFT AND THE SUSQUEHANNA INDIAN IS ON THE RIGHT. THIS IS A MUCH RARER DERIVATIVE THAN MOST OF THE OTHERS, EXCEPT DERIVATIVE 1, STATE 1 (SEE MAP # 118H5). THE MAP FIRST APPEARED ON P. 17 IN DE BRY'S DREYZEHENDER THEIL AMERICAE...., FRANCKFURT, GEDRUCKT BEY CASPER ROTEL, 1628.
