SHOAL WATER IS SHOWN BY DOTTED AREAS. INDIAN VILLAGE LOCATIONS ARE GIVEN. A PICTURE OF A LARGE FISH TRAP IS SHOWN, ALONG WITH MANY TREES, INDIANS, SHIPS, CANOES, SUNKEN VESSELS, AND A SEA MONSTER. THIS VIEW IS TOO FAR SOUTH TO BE AN IMPORTANT ITEM IN A CHESAPEAKE COLLECTION, BUT DOES ELABORATE ON AN AREA INCLUDED IN THE JOHN WHITE MAP OF 1590 (SEE MAP # 090W5). THE PLATE WAS INCLUDED IN PART I OF THEODORE DEBRY'S GRAND VOYAGES, FRANKFORT, 1590.

NO MANUSCRIPT CORRESPONDING TO THIS PLATE IS FOUND IN WHITE'S DRAWINGS IN THE BRITISH MUSEUM, BUT IT IS QUITE SIMILAR TO THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE 1585 WHITE MANUSCRIPT MAP.

DATA IS FROM CUMMING, VERNER AND QUINN.

EDITION & STATE INFO : CUMMING INDICATES THAT THE PRINTED TITLE ABOVE THE MAP AND THE TEXT DIFFER IN LANGUAGE IN THE LATIN, ENGLISH, FRENCH AND GERMAN EDITIONS OF THOMAS HARRIOTT'S ADMIRANDA NARRATIO FIDA TAMEN, BUT THAT THE ENGRAVING REPRESENTING THE PICTORIAL MAP WAS UNCHANGED IN THE VARIOUS EDITIONS.

HFC OWNERSHIP DATA : THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION HAS A BEAUTIFUL BLACK AND WHITE COPY WITH FULL TEXT, WITH AN ACQ. # OF PRS017-NUG AND A MDHR # OF MSA SC1399-275.
