On October 31, 2016, the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals created the Advisory Committee to Explore the Feasibility of Maryland’s Adoption of the Uniform Bar Examination.

To the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, which regulates the Maryland Bar, the Committee reported its recommendations on August 31, 2017, regarding the feasibility of adopting a uniform bar examination for persons in Maryland seeking to become lawyers.

Appointed by the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, the Committee consisted of thirteen members.

On November 16, 2017, the Court of Appeals accepted the recommendation of the Committee to adopt the Uniform Bar Examination along with a Maryland Law supplement to the Examination to be implemented in 2019.
