Friends of the Maryland State Archives

The Friends of the Maryland State Archives is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to furthering the knowledge and understanding of Maryland’s rich history. An understanding of our past is important to planning and preparing for our future. Promoting such insight and knowledge, especially through educational and outreach programs for students and teachers is central to the work of the Friends.

The Mission of the Friends:

To further the goals of the Archives in acquiring, preserving and making accessible records, artistic property, and other items relating to the history of Maryland by:

  • Assisting with the acquisition of important documents, artifacts or works of art that are important to the understanding and interpretation of Maryland history;
  • Providing funds for publishing scholarly works relating to Maryland history and culture;
  • Providing funds for the conservation of important works of art that are in the state’s collections;
  • Sponsoring events that celebrate Maryland's history and promote the goals of the Maryland State Archives.
