Volunteer/Academic Credit Internship Program
Archival Management, Historical Research, & Electronic Archives
Who: High school, undergraduate or graduate level college students attending Maryland institutions OR Maryland residents attending out-of-state schools are eligible to apply. The competitive selection process is based on an evaluation of one or more the following application materials:
- Cover letter (stating your interest, potential start date and approximate schedule)
- Maryland State Employment Application Form (MS 100) - may be downloaded at http://www.msa.maryland.gov/msa/intromsa/employ/doc/ms100.doc
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty member
- A sample of the applicant's academic writing ( a copy of a paper written for class is acceptable)
- Academic transcripts (an unoffical copy is acceptable)
What: Interns will engage in a variety of activities related to processing, managing, and interpreting archival collections. Individual intern assignments will vary, but duties may include research, writing, web design, electronic imaging, computer programming, record stripping, and accessioning. The intern program includes a heavy focus on the application of computer technology to both the historical method and archival practice. Some assignments may require periodic off-site work.

How: Send all application materials to the address above (ATTN: Internship Coordinator). Please include a letter of intent and availability with each application. It is not necessary to be a history major to participate in the program, and students of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
