An act for establishing several new ferries, and for other purposes.

New ferries established over Roanoke, Shenandoah, Black Water, & Pagan Creek. Does not mention establishment of opposite ferries.



Oct. 1779-4th Commonwealth, Chap. XXXV, pp. 196-97.

An act for establishing several new ferries, and for other purposes. New ferries over the Rappahanock and Kentucky established. Ferry over the Potomack at Shepherdstown established in 1778 is discontinued. No mention of opposite ferries.



Oct. 1780-5th Commonwealth, Chap. XVIII, pp. 365-66.

An act for establishing several publick ferries and discontinuing a former one.

Establishes and sets rates for several new ferries; none on Potomac. No mention of opposite ferries.

An act for establishing a new ferry.

Establishes ferry across the James river; discontinues one and establishes another over the Fluvanna. No mention opposite ferries.

VIRGINIA

Resolutions, Jan. 2d, 1781, pp. 564-67

For a cession of the lands on the north west side of Ohio to the United States.

Virginia yields to the congress of the US "all right, title, and claim that the said commonwealth hath to the lands northwest of the river Ohio."





WAREHOUSES

Several laws re. tobacco warehouses regarding fees, instructions to inspectors etc.; only those that refer to the Potomac are noted. There were also laws establishing warehouses for hem and flour.



May 1780-4th Commonwealth, Chap. XVI, pp. 272-76.

An act to amend the several acts of assembly respecting the inspection of tobacco.

Sets salaries for inspectors, including at Alexandria and "at the falls of Potowmack."





Nov. 1781-6th Commonwealth, Chap. XXIII, pp. 474-78.

An act to continue and amend the several acts of assembly respecting the inspection of tobacco and for other purposes.

Continues previous act for 12 months. Establishes some new warehouses and discontinues others (none on Potomac). Sets inspectors' salaries, including for warehouses "at Alexandria," and "at the falls of Potowmack."





Nov. 1781-6th Commonwealth, Chap. XL, pp. 501-17

An act for ascertaining certain taxes and duties, and for establishing a permanent revenue.

Art. IV establishes warehouses for flour and hemp in Alexandria, Fredericksburg, Richmond, Petersburg and West-Point; the one in Alexandria may have been on the Potomac.
