On or about September 14, 1814, Jerry and his family were taken away by British soldiers, from the home of Benjamin Phillips. At the time Jerry was 2 or 3 years of age and worth $100.

Following the war Benjamin Philips filed a claim for his five slaves with B. L. Lear an agent who submitted the evidence to the Department of State. Maryland slave owners were awarded $280 for each slave they lost during the war.
