Biography:

Laura Oliver was born in 1813 in Prince George's County, Maryland to Moses and Adeline Oliver. Laura and her mother Adeline were the enslaved property of James and Mary Lyles Coombs of Swan Creek Neck in southern Prince George's County. Laura's father Moses was enslaved at the home of William Lyle's who was the father of Mary Lyle's Coombs. 

In 1814, Laura who was only 1, was carried off by her mother who fled to British ships that were in the Potomac River. In 1815, Laura and her family settled on the Windsor Road in Nova Scotia.
