Ann Sollers (b. circa ? - d. circa ?)
MSA SC 5496-050805
War of 1812 Claimant, Calvert County, Maryland

Biography:

Ann Sollers was a slaveholder who lived in Calvert County, Maryland. In 1814, four of Sollers slaves, David Armstrong, Jacob Goler, Hammond Goler, and Rosetta Goler, escaped to British forces while they were in Calvert County. Hammond and Rosetta Goler were they young children of Jacob Goler. Ann Sollers saw Jacob board a British vessel lying at the mouth of the Patuxent River. Jacob carried his wife and two children on board the vessel.

Following the War of 1812, Ann Sollers submitted a claim for the loss  of her four slaves. Maryland slave owners had to submit evidence to recieve compensation for the loss of their property during the war. Ann received depositions from her peers, as well as African Americans who were well acquainted with the slaves that escaped. Sollers was compensated $280 for each slave that she lost to the British.
