Elijah Lyles (b. circa 1787 - d. ?)

War of 1812 Escaped Slave, Kent County, Maryland, 1814

Biography:

Around September 16, 1814, Elijah Lyles escaped his enslavement on Swan Point, reaching British ships on the Patuxent River. He fled with the slaves Jacob Murray, Abraham LylesGeorge Horner, Delilah Murray, Hannah Lyles, John Chambers and Polly Chambers.1

He served Colonial Marines, although the identity of his company is currently unknown.2
