ANNAPOLIS - Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. today named Timothy E. Meredith to the Fifth Appellate Circuit Seat for the Court of Special Appeals. Meredith, an attorney in private practice, will serve until the 2006 election cycle, when he will stand for election to a full ten-year term. He replaces Judge Clayton Greene, Jr., who was elevated to the Court of Appeals in January 2004.
"It is with great pleasure that I appoint Tim Meredith, who was determined by a panel of lawyers and laypeople to be legally and most fully professionally qualified for this position," said Governor Ehrlich. "His experience and ability will further the best interests of the citizens of Maryland and the judicial system during his term."
Meredith, 53, is a partner at Warfield, Meredith & Darrah, P.C., in Severna Park, Maryland. His practice focuses on business litigation, including contracts, real estate, fraud and other business torts. He is also a trained mediator. He is a 1974 graduate of Western Maryland College and earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1977. Meredith has been a member of the American Bar Association and the Maryland Bar Association since 1978. He previously served as District Vice Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America's Baltimore Area Council. A Severna Park native, Meredith and his wife, Kathleen, have two children.
Mr. Meredith was recommended to Governor Ehrlich by the Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission, which was responsible for conducting interviews and reviewing all available information on judicial applicants before recommending to the Governor the most qualified candidates for filling the vacancy.
Statewide judicial nominating commissions were established by Executive Order in 1970 to propose nominees to the Governor for appointment to the Judiciary. Governor Ehrlich continued the judicial nominating commission process through Executive Order 01.01.2003.12.
