8. SABBATICAL REST IN GOD'S SERVICE (Leviticus 25:1-55)

The land had to be rested for its resuscitation - more was done for the good soil by this means than all chemicals. What is good for the soil is good for the sower. The Lord invites His labourers to come and rest awhile. (Mark 6:31 ). God cares about His labourers (Leviticus 25:7 ). His labourers are worthy of reward and refreshment and rest. (1 Corinthians 9:9; 1 Timothy 5:18 ).

8.1. EVERY FIFTIETH YEAR WAS A YEAR OF JUBILEE (Leviticus 25:8-55)

The year of Jubilee was to be a time of liberty, all debts were remitted - all slaves set free. The chapter is full of regulations about buying and selling property and servants, all of which must be in accordance with the distance or nearness of the Jubilee.

8.2. TRUTH SUGGESTED FOR A SPIRITUAL PEOPLE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:
- We have been made free in Christ - therefore, for freedom Christ has freed us. So we should not allow ourselves to be entangled again (Galatians 5:1 ).
- We are restored to right relationship with God (Leviticus 25:10 ) to His family and its rights.
- We have been set free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2 ).
- Things of earth are of only temporary value (Leviticus 25:15 ), here for a time.

1 Timothy 4:8 "For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come."

- God is our great provider for both natural and spiritual needs (Leviticus 25:20-22 ). In doing our part remember in the last analysis our total dependence is upon Him.

1 Corinthians 3:6 "... God gave the increase."

- What we have is held in stewardship - just as the land is God's (Leviticus 25:23 ). All is His and entrusted to us.
- Caring for and releasing others in need is part of our enjoyment of Jubilee freedom (Leviticus 25:25-28 ).
- We must never make merchandise by taking advantage of our brothers (Leviticus 25:37 ).
- We should exercise a ministry of restoration (Leviticus 25:47-55 ), remembering we have been redeemed, and have a special relationship with Him who says:

Leviticus 25:55 "... I am the LORD your God. "

What wonderful rest this gives us in our serving Him.
