Mr.Shoemaker laoved that the Chief Engineer be empowered to employ the Chief of Party, the two Instrument Men and Six Rodmen recommended by him, at such compensation as he may deem advisable within the limits of salaries suggested "by the Chief Engineer for the respective positions. The motion was lost, there "being no second to it. Governor Crothers moved that the selection of the field men on the survey parties be deferred until the next meeting of the Commission, to be held to-morrow, Thursday, morning. The motion was seconded by l.'r. Hutton, and adopted. The Chief Engineer brought to the attention of the Commission the matter of proper forms, in the way of Releases, Notices to citizens of the purpose of the Commission to lay out Roads, Specifications for Bids, etc- etc., and Governor Crothers moved that the Chairman and Mr. Shoemaker be appointed a Committee to take up with Ur, Benson, Counsel to the Commission, the suggestions contained in the forms submitted by the Chief ^ngineer, and make any suggestions, amendments or changes they desire looking to the object and piirposes for which they are "being prepared. The motion *s seconded "by Mr. Hutton, and adopted. The Commission fixed August 19th., 1908, at 11 o'clock a.m. as a day for the final settlement of location of roads in V/icomico. Somerset, Torcester and Dorchester Counties. On notion, duly seconded, the Commission adjourned to me.et to-morow, Thursday, July 23, 1908, at 10 o'clock a.m. Adjourned. Attd's/t E. L. Pursuant to adjournment a meeting of the State Roads Commission was held this Thursday, July 23rd., 1908, at 11 o'clock a.m. at its offices, Union Trust Building, Baltimore, Md. Present: Governor Austin L. Crothers, Chairman John .V. Tucker, Mr. Francis C. Hutton and Mr. Samuel 11. Shoemaker. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Action upon the recommendations of the Chief Engineer as to the employment of field men for the surveys having been deferred until this meeting, Governor Crothers moved that Mr. James M. Douglas, of Rossville, Md., be appointed Chief of Party, at a salary of £83.33 per month. The motion «s seconded by Mr. Hutton, and adopted. Governor Crothers moved the appointment of Mr. G. G. Townsend, Jr. of Frostburg, and Mr. W. D. Somervell, of Port Republic, as Instrument Men, each at a salary of $50.oo per month Mr. Shoemaker nominated Mr. John K. McCabe of Govans, for the position of Instrument Man. Upon a vote being taken Mr. Townsend received four rotes, Mr. Somervell received three votes and Mr. McCabe received one vote. The Chair announced the rote and declared Mr Towneaend and Mr. Soxn-errell elected. Governor Crothers then moved the appointment of Mr. E. L. Pattison as Rodman, at a salary of $40.oo per month. The motion was seconded by Mr. Hutton, and Mr. Pattison was declared elected.
