Secretary to notify St.Mary1s & Calvert County Commissioners of hearing before Comm1 on permanent location of roads. Salaries of First & Second Asst.Engineers. (Motion lost) Salary of First Asst. Engineer fixed. Pursuant to notice the State Roads Commission met at its offices in the Union Trust Building, Baltimore, Maryland, this Wednesday, July 1st., 1908, at 10 o'clock a.m. Present: Governor Austin L. Crothers, Chairman John M. Tucker, Dr. Ira Remsen, Mr. Samuel M. Shoemaker, and Mr. Francis C. Hutton. The minutes of the last meeting were read and duly approved. Dr. Remsen moved that hereafter, before the minutes of the previous meeting are finally entered upon the Record of Proceedings of the Commission, rough minutes be written up by the Secretary and sent to the members for perusal before final adoption. The motion was seconded by Mr. Shoemaker, and adopted. Mr. Frank H. Callaway appeared before the Board with a communication for the sale of the Baltimore & Liberty Turnpike, and stated that the matter could be consummated, if treated with at once, for the sum of $25,000. The Commission received the communication but declined to give a hearing at this time. Dr. Remsen moved that the Chief Engineer "be instructed to locate on a map or maps the suggestions made by the citizens at the various public meetings held by the Commission, and to make such suggestions as seem to him proper for the consideration of the Commission. The motion was seconded by Governor Crothers and adopted. Dr. Remsen moved that the Secretay be instructed to notify the County Commissioners of Calvert and St. Mary's Counties that the Commission will meet in Baltimore at its offices on Wednesday, July 15th 1908, at 11 o'clock a.m. to hear any suggestions from the representatives of those counties as to the location of a Road to be selected as a State Road before final location by the Commission. The motion was seconded by Governor Crothers and adopted. Governor Crothers moved that the salary of the First Assistant Engineer be fixed at $2000 a year, and that the salary of the Second Assistant Engineer be fixed at $1600 a year. There was no second to this motion. After some deliberation over the matter, Dr. Remsen moved that the salary of the First Assistant Engineer be fixed at $2500 a year, $1500 of which is to be paid by the State Roads Commission, with the understanding that the Maryland Geological & Economic Survey Commission (9)
