LOS ANGELES (October, 1996) -- Turner Classic Movies Music/Rhino Movie
Music is proud to present the definitive soundtrack issue to one of the
greatest epic motion pictures in Hollywood history: Gone With The Wind.
The landmark 1939 M-G-M release earned 13 Academy Awards nominations and
8 wins. This first definitive issue of the score arrives in stores by the
end of October.
The Gone With The Wind soundtrack marks the first
comprehensive release of the score to this classic motion picture. Written
by Max Steiner, the music earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original
Score. Producer David O. Selznick borrowed Steiner from Warner Brothers
for the scoring of the film. Steiner had to provide 282 musical episodes
and he devised themes for each of the plot elements.
Along with the well-known title theme, this Gone With
The Wind release contains more than 90 minutes of music from the film
which has never been previously heard on album.
The lavish packaging reflects the status of Gone With
The Wind as Hollywood's greatest classic movie. The beautiful color
booklet is packed with rare stills and production art as well as a very
comprehensive history of the film by renowned Selznick biographer Rudy
Behlmer, who authored "Memo From David O. Selznick."
Gone With The Wind starred Clark Gable in the quintessential
role of well-to-do ne'er-do-well Rhett Butler, and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett
O'Hara. The film was based on the Margaret Mitchell's best selling saga
of love as the Civil War swept through the Old South, and no effort was
spared in the production. Virtually all aspects of the near-four-hour film
display the handiwork of master craftsmen, from the direction and screenplay,
to the production design and of course Max Steiner's music. |
