Annapolis April 28.1904
The State House Building Commission
met
in the Government House
at Annspolis, at
1 o'clock. There were
present Governor
Warfield, the Hon James
McSherry, the Hon
Saul D. Schmucker, the Hon
Murray Vandiver,
the Hon F.C. Latrobe, the
Hon Gordon J. Ackerman,
Comptrollerm abd T.J.C.
Williams. Mr. Josias
Pennington, the Architect
of the Commission
was also present.
The Architect was directed
to have the carpet
in the State House Annex
removed and cared for
until needed after the completion
of the building,
upon the most favorable
terms, the Governor
promising to have the furniture
removed and
cared for.
Upon motion of Mr. T.J.C.
Williams is was
Resolved that the
Architect be directed to
award the contract for building
the portico
for $48,973, being the amount
according to the
option heretofore reserved;
to have the car-
pets and furniture removed
and stored to the best
advantage and to complete
the Annex,
according to the plans heretofore
adopted,
as soon as possible, and
that all
contracts to be entered
unto hereafter, shall
be referred to the Executive
Committee for
approval.
Upon motion of Gen Latrobe
it was
Resolved, that it
is the sense of this
Commission that the Old
Senate Chamber
be restored to the form
it was in when
Washington resigned his
commission there
in 1783.
Upon motion of Gen Latrobe
it was
Resolved that it
is the sense of this com-
mission that the old building
formerly
known as the Comptrollers
Office be re-
moved as speedily as possible.
Upon motion of Mr. T.J.C.
Williams it was
Resolved, that the thanks
of this Commission
be lauded to James W. Thomas,
Esq., for a
portrait of his distinguished
Ancestor Hon
James Thomas, Governor of
Maryland from
1832 to 1836, said portrait
to be hung in the
new Senate Chamber when
completed.
