Specifications for Building a Portico
in front of the State-House.
Portico to be built as per plans accom-
panying.


1st;    The trenches for the foundation walls
        will be excavated not less than three (3)
        feet below the present level, and to such
        further depth as may be nesessary [sic] to
        secure solid ground to build upon.

2nd:    The Foundation Walls will be laid
        with hard Brick and Cement, Eight-
        teen (18) inches thick; the brick to be
        laid solid, true and plumb.

3rd:    All the front of the Porch will be
        cassed [sic] in Marble, as shown in plan;
        the steps will be Marble, securely
        underpined [sic] with brick; also the Base
        of Pillasters and Base of the Columns;
        the floor of Porch will be laid inside
        of Margin stripes with Encaustic
        tile, or Marble tile, as the Board may
        select.

4th:    The Columns will be of White Pine
        well and securely built--and every
        precaution used in securing
        seasoned wood to prevent shrinkage.

5th:    The Cornice will be a duplicate
        of the old work, well and faith-
        fully built.

6th:    The door will be 2 1/2 inches thick,
        double made of the best White Pine,
        and in duplicate, so far as shape
        and sixe, as the old; and will
        receive four (4) good coats of the
        best paint, the color to be selected
        by the Board.
